Verizon Getting HTC Touch Pro2 on 9/11?

Chris at Mobility Site wrote a super-sized post about the Sprint Touch Pro 2 last Friday. Well, according to Engadget Mobile, it looks like Verizon Wireless is getting the HTC Touch Pro2 on September 11 (yes, this coming Friday), 3.5 mm headset jack and all. Even better, it will only cost $200 (after a $100 mail-in… Continue

Using The iPhone For Work Is A Chore

Joshua Topolsky, Engadget's Editor-In-Chief, tried to use his iPhone to get work done while waiting at a doctor's office and was, to say the least, unimpressed. In fact, using the iPhone for work actually turned out to be a chore.

You can read the article for the full experience, but his biggest complaints more or less in order were:… Continue

Is Android A Failure?

Frank at Mobility Site posted about 1 million T-Mobile G1s being sold, but Sascha Segan at PC Magazine is beginning to worry whether Android is already a failure. He bases his claims on a couple of points.… Continue

The Q9m Is Dead, Long Live The Omnia!

My Motorola Q9m died on March 28 -- it wouldn't even power up connected to the AC. Needing a new phone, and wanting to stick with Windows Mobile (surprise!), I headed over to my Verizon store. I'd previously checked out the Samsung Omnia, and thought it looked cool, but it didn't have a hardware keyboard. I was also interested in the Samsung Saga, a QWERTYbar phone (like the Q9m) running Windows Mobile Professional and having a SIM slot (so it was a true world phone).

Unfortunately, the store d… Continue

Is Touch Evil?

About a month ago, Zack Whittaker at ZD Net blogs wrote an interesting piece called Touch: the most evil technology in modern computing. He claims that touch technology is evil for two main (and related) reasons -- screens smudged with fingerprints can get glitchy and spread germs.

While both may be… Continue

Best Selling Windows Mobile Devices

When it was announced that Windows Mobile sold 20 million devices last year, it was also mentioned that 11 devices had sales of one million or more. Curious about what those devices were, Mike Temporale of Mobile Jaw asked Greg Sullivan what those top sellers were. Here's the list (grouped by manufacturer):

  • Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900/908/SCH-i910/M490)

  • Samsung Blackjack II (SGH

Just Say No!

Steve Laser over at Mobility Site (where I write now, too) might have been more accurate than intended in his I Want a New Drug article. If you find yourself getting bored with your current PDA or phone (or any tech accessory), consider this -- you might be a junkie. No, you probably aren't hanging out on street corners looking for somebody selling hot phones in their trench coats or turning tricks for a new piece of… Continue

A Phone Fit For A President

It's been widely reported that President Elect Obama is a BlackBerry fan and wants to keep his despite security concerns. However, C|Net reported on a secure Windows Mobile phone that's fit for a President -- the General Dynamics Sectera Edge.

The Sectera Edge is rated for Top Secret voice communications and Secre… Continue

Proof That Pocket PCs Are The Most Advanced PDAs

I was watching the Stargate Atlantis episode "The Shrine" when I saw a familiar sight near the end. The Ancients' life signs detector, shown on the right, looked surprisingly like my iPAQ 5550 (left).

So I have discovered irrefutable proof that HP's device (from five years ago, mind you) is based on highly-advanced Alteran technology. How many other PDAs can make… Continue

Goodbye, Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine

If you're a reader of Smartphone & Pocket PC (SP&PPC) Magazine, I've got some bad news for you -- SP&PPC is suspending publishing and the next issue will be its last. Lack of advertising and circulation were blamed for the decision. Thaddeus Computing, publisher of SP&PPC, will be publishing iPhone Life, though. Current subscribers who still have issues re
